So I'm curious to hear the responses. If there is one thing you would want to know your subordinates learned from you, what would that be? 2015-01-28T18:04:08-05:00 1SG(P) Private RallyPoint Member 441598

I think this is one of those questions we all have to take a step back and think about. It's ok to discipline them and hold them accountable, but also ensure that they are allowed to make mistakes and grow from them.

“The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. If troops think you are just mission oriented, then you have left the human side out of the equation. I realize the importance of mission accomplishment, but it takes the most valuable asset you have to get it done and that's your troops. Never forget how you got where you are in the military, you are a leader of men and women and they will go to the moon if they know you respect them. Where are the leaders when the mission is completed?
