If the US is going to be the world’s policeman, why should America support and fund the United Nations?

We can never have too many ways to communicate with other nations. More communication = less lethal misunderstandings. And a truly competent diplomatic team can use their MINDS to achieve goals without necessitating the spilt blood of their nation's service members. Think of the U.N. as chess board used to further our interests. Pray our reps know how to play!

CSM Charles Hayden I am not a fan of the United Nations and do not think we should be picking up 22% of the UN budget.

The UN is funded by its member countries whose contribution is assessed every 3 year which is based on the GNP,per capita income & external debt of countries

Get the U.S. out of the UN ASAP! It is a major waste of U.S. taxpayer dollars. and for what? A paper tiger that's about as effective as the old League of Nations unless the U.S. pays for and leads it. As to the U.S. being the world's sheriff, I never have agreed with that. We should keep an eye on the Western Hemisphere and let the rest of the world look out for itself. We should be very picky as to what foreign conflicts or rivalries we get involved in, based on the question "Will our involvement give us an advantage of some sort, or will it be good for the country? If not, don't go. We've got enough problems to solve here at home.

I can fathom your point, certainly...the same happened with the League of Nations, different variations on a similar theme, despite alp he efforts of Pres Wilson...it started out as a good idea, howeverz the notion of it was far too idealistic as well as simplistic...further, how it was organized didn't account for societal change and/or social evolution...unfortunately, I:s the only world body that exists at present, apart from regional entities like NATO, the British Commonwealth, ANZAC, OAS, etc...until someone devises something more workable, while I obv agree with your views, certainly, I just wouldn't know what else to suggest, you know? I think when it was set up after WW2, those who set it up ten couldn't have envisioned the changes that occurred in itz that !ale it essentially all but unworkable today, you know?

Well, CSM Charles Hayden, I do like CPT Jack Durish’s response, but deep down inside, I really wish for the U.S. to withdraw from the United Nations, take possession of the buildings (to include all the UN’s various countries’ ambassadors) and let them reconvene elsewhere.

You have to have an organization that allows you a place to attempt to work things out (even if it doesn't always) , an organization that can be leveraged to corral rogue states and actors, and to prevent genocide (more to the point to put nations on notice that their indifference will be recorded) . Not sure we need all the UN Commissions on various topics.

What the UN lacks is the very thing that holds it together. Nations can be members and not really be bound to do anything unless everyone gangs up on them, most importantly the near unanimous action of five permanent security council members...2 of 3 who by ideology, oppose western policy.

The UN represents the pagan world system desire for world government. The so called Deplorables (unwashed Americans) stand in the way of large central governments, 10 economic regions and the State is a god.
As much as most here detest the useless nation's, the world system hates us 10 fold more.
IMO, the world system which the useless nation's represents, will be given a bone soon enough. Then, there will be world government, firearms outlawed and no free speech.
