The state of California after all has put their own stamp upon many products. They have laws which supersede other federal rules at least in the trucking business though I am sure many others as well.
There are wealthy areas in the state whose enforcement of public laws reach the level of exclusion of most citizens. Hollywood and Silicon Valley police departments certainly use their license plate recognition capability to identify and profile non residents. Every car in the United States.....don't kid yourselves..is set up with California emissions..think about it. Why would anyone think it's not illegal to buy reprogramming chips on line..chips which increase your power and mileage without making a single modification to the emission control system.. By proxy the State of California... (a major oil producer but the way) has created a market which increases the use of petroleum products in a wasteful fashion, profitable to their economy.
The act of secession requires the approval of all the OTHER states...not the approval of California residents. The state would undoubtedly not have approval, nor want, exclusion of United States military presence. The secession would allow the creation of a border providing controlled entry to the rest of the country..which in turn would lead to far greater control over drug trafficking and illegal immigration. Exports of California grown produce could be taxed, said revenue being used to offset the cost of our military presence. I could go on to write a book..
I beg the state of California to secede...all US citizens would of course retain the rights which our constitution guarantees... as a requirement of military protections.
The removal of the right of those who identify themselves as California residents to vote would require strict monitoring and proof of Naturalized American status. This would certainly create a fairer more balanced reflection of the will of the American people whose fight to have their rights recognized are currently overwhelmed. Each district in California whose citizens chose to vote in National elections would be allowed to assign their electors vote in a manner reflecting the will of existing congressional districts.
American citizens who give up the right to vote based upon the desire for recognition as a naturalized citizen of the State of California would no longer be given the right to vote in United States national election.
Any input will be welcome. For some reason they believe that the revenue provided by taxes no longer collected by the feds but by seceded state will wash the cost of defense, border enforcement, infrastructure, entitlements, administration etc. they will have to assume as a sovereign nation. They will no longer benefit from the transfer of funds from other regions of the country that are represented by federal spending. Their GDP will be affected by the exit of very large military contractors who want to both retain their US contracts and get out from under the cost of doing business in Cali to the remaining states. They will lose the secondary spending revenues represented by the net exit of federal employees, military and civilian. And they will incur the completely new expense of securing an international border magnitudes longer than the border with Mexico. And on and on and on.
Add it all up and the independent nation of California has all the potential of becoming an emerging second or third world nation.
On the negative side the US will lose the Kardashians, the Real Housewives of Orange County and the Valley.

Whoa there! Maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all. Of course SCOTUS disagrees with me on this point (White v Texas). In looking at the Constitution there is nothing preventing secession so in keeping with the 10th amendment, they should be allowed to do so. I would hope that they did it as a referendum as opposed to the state government just doing it. They do not operate as a sovereign nation, but they do act on their own a lot and exert a great deal of influence in the Union. SGT David T. Texas has been threatening secession for awhile now, but they've got the arms and ammunition to back it up. California just enacts gun law after gun law. If they secede, they'll just end up being an expanded territory of one of the many gangs there.
