If RallyPoint had an option to post anonymously do you think it would be beneficial or have a negative impact on the community?

On one hand I think there would be more attacks and trolling. On the other while we are built on transparency, I can see how some people, especially those still serving, are discouraged from posting or reaching out for help.

SSG Carlos Madden I vote that users have to use their real name as stated in the procedures. Users should not be allowed to continue posting without being verified. Without controls in place, we are inviting more attacks and trolling.

I am just fine with my opinions, posts, and responses being fully visible to anyone who wants to see it. If they don't like what I say, that's fine - let me know and engage. Agree with me - that's fine too.
I feel that if you are willing to type it, you should own it.
And if you are worried that your boss or your mom will not like your posts, perhaps you should reconsider typing it on the internet. I feel that anonymous and pseudonym communications are in large part responsible for the decline in civil discourse.

Please don't even try to tell me you want to go THAT route! We got enough fakers on here as it is. If--big IF--there would be any benefit found in doing that, it would be grossly outweighed by the downsides. Doesn't really fit the "transparency" argument when posters and trolls can have free reign to be so blatantly non-transparent about who they are, and to own what they say as MSG Private RallyPoint Member wrote in his reply.

Besides, I can only speak for myself of course, but I know I sure wouldn't want to be an admin on here after turning it into the military equivalent of Facebook (ahem, ahem, SSG Carlos Madden ). ;-)

I think posting anonymous has only led to people being rude assholes. No one has any issue insulting others when they feel anonymous. I think the anonymous posts and personnel should be eliminated. There is no one so top secret on here that they can't share their real name and rank.

I think one of the best things the military teaches you is hold yourself responsible for your actions and opinions. If you don't learn that early, you're missing the fact it is needed for yourself and the men and women you work with. I think it used to be called the courage of your convictions.
The possibility of retribution for the truth or an opinion well written is remote.

I think it would pose more trolling and attacks personally. My father always said that if yo are going to say something be man enough to stand up and back it up and own it. We have people already that use the name Anonymous in their title and haven't been removed so I guess you can if you want to. It may be beneficial if there was the option to have a regular account and post anonymously if you needed help.
