If my long-term goal is to be a counter-intellegence agent, which MOS is better to start, 31B or 35F?

Go 35F. 31B might only help if you go to MPI or CID in order to pick up some investigative skills however it seems becoming an Intelligence Analyst would better transition you into your long-term goal. Best of luck!

Go 35F, it'll expose you to the Intelligence Community (IC). See what's out there and don't be in such a hurry to settle down just yet.. And spell intelligence correctly...

35F really helps with analytical skills, as well as learning the most effective way to research.

35F for a number of reasons. You have the same clearance level as a 35L, this is one of the biggest hurdles those re-classing today. 35F also gives you the analytical side of military intelligence.

I agree with all of the other posters. 35F would be much better preparation for 35L. I also think it would be worthwhile to talk to your recruiter about 35M.

Training as a 35M will give you a potential leg up on reports writing and interview skills.

As you advance in your career you'll find that experience as a 35M will help you understand the doctrine and policy that will govern both MOSs. 35M and 35L are so closely related the MOSs merge at MSG.

Why he 31B if you wanna go CI????
Be in the 35 series trust me you’ll save time and not waste it being a patrol.

As a 31B Senior NCO, I can tell you that many of these posts are right on target. Begin in the field you want to work in. Being a 31B wont do much for you from that perspective. CMF 35 will move you in the right direction. Regarding clearance, I have the level of clearance that would support a move to the CMF 35, but I was fortunate and I worked for the right people at the right time to get that clearance. The vast majority of the folks in CMF 31 dont have a TS/SCI.

You could check out 35M, that way it can be an easier transition into becoming a 35L, but there's nothing wrong with going 35F. As long as you stay in the 35 series, you'll be alright. Going MP would take you down a more difficult road.

As a 35F that is now a 35L, I'd definitely say go Analyst first. Once I got my packet in I got adjudicated pretty quickly since I already had a clearance and experience working with HUMINT. Going 35M isn't a bad second option as some have said, I had a handful of 35M's in my CISAC class that had about as easy a time as I did, they were a little stronger with interviews and such at first while I was stronger at report writing and building briefs, but in the end we both evened out and graduated with the same level skill set.

Definitely go 35F I was a 31B, you’ll have more of the training for what you want in 35F plus I think 35F requires a higher security clearance then 31B.
