Having these done before showing up does help and it is possibly to have the pending assignment prior to going to recruiting school. If you do well and like the job you can reclassify to 79R as I went from 11B to 79R.

Response by 1SG Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 20 at 2019 5:10 AM 2019-03-20T05:10:35-04:00 2019-03-20T05:10:35-04:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 4465520

You will have a shot at it. You can most definitely stay and finish your career many before you have done it. I personally wouldn't recruiting just isn't my thing. You'll just be required to wait 18 months before you reclass. If USAREC can fulfill your request based off of open slots and different demographics, you'll get where you request. The majority of people in my class last year got at least something in their top 3 if they volunteered.
And for your second question...you can reclass to 78R and start the process after about a year on recruiting. however, you will not be a recruiter. As a 79R you'll start out as a station commander, take a few stations, then do other assignments like BN Master traininer, MEPS guidance counselor...jobs like that. Re-classifying to 79R is a different matter. First you have to be a successful recruiter with demonstrated production, potential to lead recruiters, and recommended by the CoC.. Second, you have to actually want to be in recruiting for the rest of your career. Until you are actually assigned to a station and on production, you do not know the answer to either of those questions yet. I completed my career as a 79R but I started out as a detail recruiter, went back to my old MOS, I was called back, and was involuntarily converted to 79R.
