If I transition into the Army with 8 years in the Navy will I be advanced in time (before my retention date)? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/if-i-transition-into-the-army-with-8-years-in-the-navy-will-i-be-advanced-in-time-before-my-retention-date

If I join the Army after serving in the Navy for 8 years (an e4) what is the likelyhood I will be advanced before my retention date (10 years. That leaves me with 16 months)? I was thinking about converting from HM to 92Y. Also, the retention/HYT/TIS is all the same across the board right?

I have talked to a couple recruiters about this, but I want to see what you guys think. So, you would need an exception to policy. The Army isn't going to enlist you for only 2 years, 3 is more realistic. Three years is plenty of time to advance in a critical shortage MOS. You probably won't get 92Y because it's not a shortage MOS. The Army already has to make an exception to access you and if they put you in a non critical shortage MOS there is no guarantee you would make the next rank in time. You'll be limited to whatever they're offering that day.
