Response by CPO Andy Carrillo, MS made Oct 13 at 2016 7:03 PM 2016-10-13T19:03:18-04:00 2016-10-13T19:03:18-04:00 SGM Erik Marquez 1973923 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="306573" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/306573-31a-military-police-39th-mp-728th-mp">CPT Private RallyPoint Member</a> You are allowed to wear apropret safety gear while operating the motorcycle, you are not authorized to alter the uniform components if not riding...it is as black and white as that.<br />I carried my helmet, jacket and backpack for most of thirty years from building to bike..including when i was a company 1SG and parked 30 feet from MY building ...If i can do it, so can my SM.<br />I carried my gear when I was the 1st CAV G3 SGM and I parked in assigned parking feet from the door..I had a RFID card to open.... no one would have seen me for the most part, and only handful of folks had the rank or position say something if they did..but if it was right for me to do, it was right for others to do.... so i carried my gear.<br /><br />The world is not going to stop turning if you jump off your bike and take 10 steps to your office front door.. so if there is an emergency, do what needs to be done... but those same ten steps ... you can set a visual standard that rules, policies and regulations are for everyone..and in my opinion, the small inconvenience to you is outweighed by the larger good you do by taking it off after dismounting and carrying it. I would even leave the gear on if I had to go to the cashier to pay. Anything more (or anyplace other than a gas station) and it is proper uniform.<br /><br />If you really want to stop and shop on your way home from your unit, change into civilian clothes BEFORE YOU LEAVE, then its a non-issue. Or use that outer armor stuff that works great and its not to hot.
