If you do not have a good retirement year, you get credit for time in grade and time in service, but NOT retirement. If you get mobilized, perform an IMA duty, or some other duty status and accrue at least 50 points you get all three- retirement, TIS and TIG. It will not give you enough time towards a good year for retirement. You are a ready reserve asset with no pay and must maintain Ht/Wt and APFT on your own. It does not help your career but it keeps you from a break in service/attached. Only good if you need to take care of personal issues. I do t recommend staying in the IRR for long if you don&#39;t have to. If you can get attached to an Ima unit to get your points you are better off. See a career counselor for more information.
