My best advise is if you are forced out, try to find a federal job to allow those years to count toward a federal retirement.

You can still do the reserves and guard but it is a different pension. I would focus on improving the OERs.

Thank you for the feedback, Sir. Wouldn’t there be a way to go Enlisted or Chief Warrant Officer just to get to 20 years if I am forced out between now and then?

Depends. I spent 12 yes on AD, went into the Reserves for 19 years. Accumulated over 5000 pts with deployments and other voluntary things. When I retired I got a note on how my retirement equated to an AD retirement. It was identical to 20 years, 6 months. Effectively an AD retirement with appropriate pay/benefits
