I did not read the article, I don't respect sites like PCMD that have an obvious agenda. I have always taught my children tolerance for ALL lifestyles, and if that is what this teacher is doing, then more power to him.

In the 3rd grade there is no reason to be studying anything about sexuality, be homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual. Stick to math, reading and things like that.

As long as the book wasn't sexual and was G rated, I more than likely wouldn't have a problem with it. In our society today homosexuals are pretty open so if the book was as he claimed about treating people with respect I would be on board. The article posted was clearly not objective so I really wouldn't get my blood pressure up over it.

I would pay him a visit.
If that did not result in an understanding, the Principal would be my next stop.
If that did not provide satisfaction, the School Board would be the next stop, and the PTA would get the word to see if I was an outlier.
If I was the problem, I'd reassess to determine if I had misunderstood. If so, I would move on from it. If not, a more public approach would be next.
Failing that, my child would be changing teachers at least, schools maybe.

Mistakes happen. I think that what the teacher did next would tell the tale. The fact he resigned on principle speaks volumes to me about where his head was at.

If it was G-rated, I wouldn't do anything. If my boys had questions about other lifestyles, I'll attempt to answer to the best of my ability. My 5 year-old's observation last time we talked was "Mommy, they're people, too."

I would complain to the principal and the school board. If I got no satisfaction with that, I would remove my child from the school, but continue the fight, using whatever legal alternatives I had available.

What would be the difference from a teacher, teaching their own political views? I am not supporting this either way. I would approach the teacher and voice my concerns and then if that did not work I would go to the administration. Then if that did not work the NEWS. Either way this guy does not care what the parents say.

Take my child out of the school until the teacher was removed. Straight people doing the same thing - promoting their view of heterosexual relationships is called bigotry and homophobia. So does this idiot think the rules are different for him? It's the same thing in reverse. If one can't do it, no one can, plain and simple.

HELL no. Anybody who knows me here on RP knows my stance on homosexuality. With that said a Third Grade classroom is no place for discussions on ANY type of sex.

My child would have been out of the class and I might have spent a night at the jail and posted bond.
