Currently hitting 19 years active duty. Was surprised that HRC changed the BASD to Dec 98 stating to ensure the Soldiers can complete the service obligation.... 2 Months apart!!! RCP is 2021, grandfathered to 23 years as a SSG.
More than enough time to complete the 36 months obligation if pin on to SFC!!
Would you take you 20 year pension, or continue to serve over 20!!! Need input. To me this is a no brainer!! lol SSG Marlin Dammarell Sat, 13 May 2017 21:16:01 -0400 2017-05-13T21:16:01-04:00 Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made May 13 at 2017 11:07 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/if-deemed-ineligible-for-sfc-due-to-new-basd-requirements-would-you-take-the-20-year-pension-or-continue-to-serve-over-20?n=2567601&urlhash=2567601

The current RCP for SSG is 20 years. If you are grandfathered and have the option it is up to you. I would look at getting out if you can retire and are not going to get promoted and there is not some pressing reason to stay in past 20 then get out and make room for some younger soldier that has a chance at getting promoted. I went ahead and wrapped up my military service and will soon to retire after 20 years later the fall 2018. I am ready to put all my knowledge, skills and expertise on the outside world and obtain my compensation for my service connected or aggravated injuries/disabilities and ready to get a start my civilian career and be able to retire a second time with the Government no later than the age of 59 or 60...
10 - 15 more years in the Federal Government should do it and be able to wrap up a 35 years career with Federal Service and live the full retirement life. lol.
I decided the sooner I get this started, the better off it is and will walk away with my head up high and mission accomplished...
Thanks again all, good luck and God Speed.
