I was fond of Maximus' rank/leadership before falling out with new administration:

" . . . Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, Loyal Servant to the True Emperor, Marcus Aurelius . . . . "

I was also rather fond of Mulay Ahmed El Raisuli the Magnificent's rank/leadership:

" . . . Lord of the Riff, Sultan to the Berbers, Last of the Barbary Pirates . . . . "

But, back then, you had to be built like Russell Crowe or Sean Connery to advance.

SPC was a great rank for shaming, but I liked being a SGT. As a SGT you are finally, officially, recognized as a leader and when needed can always move up in responsibility, but you are never again "lower enlisted".

I would pick Captain. Just enough power to make sure the mundane stuff gets accomplished so the major projects can have the ability to complete.

When you are a CSMs in the army (in my opinion) your job is to do whatever you want to check on and take care of Soldiers. That can't be too bad.

I have to agree about being an LT not being bad. Everyone expects you to know NOTHING. When you do know something people are amazed.

I think the Job and who you work with and for more than the rank would be what I would look at.

Gotta agree with the votes on CW4 (or maybe even the mythical CW5!) No one messes with the Chief and rarely are they questioned. (of course I know the grass is always greener and all that).

Captain (Army). its kind of the best of both worlds you still have command capability or staff potential and you don't have to sit at the "Little Lieutenants" table because you are taken somewhat seriously. All you LTs out there - you'll get there some day, Hell If I could anyone can!

I would say E-4. E-4s are generally good at their job and they are left alone to do it. Additionally, E-4s never have to go meetings or write reports. They just get to do the job. (Meetings and reports may vary by AFSC/MOS but this based my experience as a 2T2X1)

Second would be Major because you fall into all those great quips. You can:

be a MAJOR pain in the 4th pt if contact,
make MAJOR decisions
suffer from MAJOR bouts of indecision
avoid being a MAJOR disappointment
be blamed for making MAJOR mistakes
be a MAJOR influence on a S, G or J staff

If we get to pick our rank, General of the Army. Now that I am in charge, we need to get rid of all this equal pay nonsense, pay me what I deserve and everyone stop this RP nonsense and get to work! "Colonel, send that Lieutenant Colonel, to tell the Major to refill my glass, it is half empty." If I am General of the Army I want my aides too.
