If a veteran was to receive a DUI/DWI (ETS) when will they be eligible for reenlistment or is this up to the recruiter?

Can I Still Join the Army If I Have a DWI Conviction?

A DWI, driving while intoxicated, conviction may pose a challenge, but doesn't necessarily eliminate you from joining the Army. According to the website Military.com, some crimes are essentially automatic disqualifiers. Others require that a recruitment officer submit a waiver on your behalf to gain enlistment.

You can look at your RE-code and get an idea as to whether you will ever be able to enlist again and when.

I can tell you this, things have changed. In the Air Force now, specifically Security Forces, if you go to enlist with a DUI/DWI (any) you will be told thank you, no. In 2016 things changed and the language now says "May Never Have Been Convicted....". If currently serving, you will have a tough road, because the language calls for the removal from the career field.

Regardless of your Reentry code, you're going to need a waiver for your DUI.
