If a soldier gets hurt while in BMT and is hospitalized because of it should they and will they apply & gain a VA Benefit?

I believe they should be entitled to some benefits for a short term, they made a valiant effort to serve, we should help them get back on their feet.

I had a friend of mine who fractured some vertebrae while in Navy boot camp, and he was given a medical discharge, paychecks to help with the pain medication, and he also gets to annually see a doctor to make sure that it healed correctly etc... so I'm not sure if the severity of the injuries matter, but from that example I would assume that he could get VA benefits.
