Or do they keep their respective state patch? I couldn’t find this within the regulations. Any help is appreciated. For example, if you was assigned to the 34th BCT in Minnesota but your detachment is in another state, then you wear the 34th BCT patch. I hope that this helps but check with your unit commander. We wore our state’s default patch.

Then you have other situations where the BN is in one state, a Co sized element is in another state, a detachment of the parent Co is in the same state as the BN, and they all wear the same SSI. I reported to Ft. Polk LA for Basic C32 3rd Platoon, and while there the war in Vietnam ended. At that point the Army was then looking to thin their ranks as they had no war to send us to. Everyone was offered National Guard or Regular Reseve option and I took Regular Reserve. While in Basic I also had a neck and ankle injury and ended up going to three weeks of traction and heading off to AIT ...which because of my moving to Regular Reserve ended up being the 8 inch SP Howitzer at Ft. Sill OK, in a cast. I completed that training and was assigned to 4/92 FA In Erie PA where I was discharged in 1979. I ran into a number of situations where a Military ID was required and I went to the VA to obtain one and I got told that I could not receive Medical benefits because I only served 178 days before I was transferred to Reserves. In my discussion she said if I had gotten injured while on "active duty" It would change everything, now having that background here's my problem. When I was leaving Ft. Polk the Dr. handed me my medical jacket and said keep this you may need it. I did keep it for many years but in a nasty divorce back in 2005 it disappeared, with much of my other belongings and possessions and I no longer have it, how or what do I need to gain my benefits or am I just SOL.
