OK. Here's the thing that I wish I knew before I moved to Ft Stewart: When buying a house, and INSURING that house, there are TWO deductibles that you have. Your typical one, which they tell you about, which is usually pretty small, and the TROPICAL CYCLONE DEDUCTIBLE which they do NOT tell you about. This is a deductible for any claim for damage that is caused by any kind of tropical storm, cyclone, hurricane, anything of that sort. For me this was about 5 grand. You do NOT want to find out about this after a tree falls on your house (like I did). You can get this deductible removed, but it will bring your premium up, That choice is yours, but at the very least KNOW about it, and KNOW how much it is so you can keep a reserve fund in your savings for that possibility.

Everyone say's Richmond Hill. My question is why on earth would you want to move to Richmond Hill and spend 20 mins or more traveling safely to work. This does not include the traffic traveling back and forth on 144 each and every day. This does not make practical sense. Why would you want to pay and spend more for what you making in a place you only see, after work, weekends and not all the time? Consider the facts unless you are E-6 and above living over there. Your military pay will only last for so long and even some upper Enlisted and Officer's do struggle, because they did not make a wise choice. People who say live in Richmond Hill say this as a status quo, so if your like the status of living in Richmond Hill then by all means go for it, but if you have common sense and like to stick too a budget along with your spouse then choose Hinesville. We chose Hinesville, Liberty Park by Gate 7, before I retired, because it was closer to work. I did not have to shower at a friends or eat chow on the run or forget something that would be important for work. I had plenty of time to go home after PT, and do what I had to do, before I went back to work. BAH is not going to cover or give you extra money for living in Richmond Hill or Savannah. Think about the wear and tear on your car, the costly expense of gas and trust me gas will eat up traveling each day. Think about the miss times being away from your home in Richmond Hill or Savannah, when you could have just came home right away to your family. Hinesville is growing and for the amount of time you spend at work, you can still see the other area's on the weekend and not be stressed out about traveling 5 days a week back and forth to work. I know I will get some flack from those living in Savannah and Richmond Hill, but I am saying this on common sense and practical view of making your military pay go further for you. In hind sight we are closer now to medical care, we have a base of operation where we can travel and enjoy our lives. Oh another thing Hurricane Matthew forced many people East of 95 and that is from Richmond Hill and Savannah to evacuate, we were only voluntary. I wish you the best of your endeavors on making a wise decision, rather than Richmond Hill this or Savannah that and choose closer to your work.
