I was involuntarily separated from the Army in '98 after enlisting in '96. Should I be ashamed of my time or accept being called a vet?

I do not know specifics of your case but will say if you were separated with an Honorable Discharge You should not be ashamed to call yourself a Veteran.

I don't know the reason you were separated from the military. Depending on what it was and what your DD214 says. Honorable or on Honorable under other conditions. It's all in what it's says. Are you eligible for your VA benefits?

That's 2 more years than most civilians Have served. Be proud especially if you were honorably discharged. If not then you still did your time.

When you look at it, there really isn't many who volunteer considering the number of people living in the U.S.. Hold your head high, know you volunteered and say "Yes, I am a vet"

You look yourself in the mirror everyday and you know in your heart the mistakes you did or didn't make. In the below posts you say it was an honorable discharge so you are definitely a veteran and now as a veteran you decide whether to be proud or not and just try to live the best life possible. No one is perfect as we are all fallible. Enjoy your weekend.

You're a vet! You aren't one of these potatoes who got injured in Boot Camp, medically separated, getting VA benefits because you twisted your ankle, and has the gall to call themselves a vet. You earned that title, be proud of it!
