In reality yes, unless you give it up.

There's also a schism between Northern/Southern (Superior/Inferior) Cali. It can split into separate entities just as Texas can as they joined as Republics. Alaska was purchased by the Feds, hence can't do anything.

California can't legally secede. The only legal way to do so is if a state splits into different states, then the individual states would have to petition for statehood...or simply not petition.

California, if it opened up that can of worms would also have to deal with a large amount of Conservative Counties that want nothing to do with the madness that goes on in LA and Frisco. Only Florida and Texas had more people Vote For Trump than California

I guess it would depend on where you were living. If in Cali, what would it matter? If not living in Cali, I think I'd rather pretend to be illegal than admit to being a Cali citizen.
