I want to obtain my Master's degree and I am considering the University of Phoenix. Is this a good choice?

Assuming they offer degreee in the area you want they are a good school. At my civilian job I had a young lady working on a Bachelors degreee through them. She would often bring assignments in to work on during breaks and occasionally came to me for help. I was impressd with the level of classes and even more so with the instructors willingness to work around her schedule.

Just scrolled down and saw you are going after Criminal Justice. Individual above was getting Bachelors in CJ, so again good school.

My daughter completed her Bachelors Degree in Accounting using Phoenix (she had an Associate Degree from our local community college). It served her well in opening doors to a new, better job. She had no problem with the school, but that was over 5 years ago.

Recommend you look around at other options and select the school that best meets your needs and objectives. Many brick and mortar Universities now offer courses on-line in concert with their resident courses. I see you're in the Reserves. If you're in a civilian job where you can do a hybrid degree, on-line and resident combined, with a local university or college it might be the best choice.

2LT Private RallyPoint Member I had a large number of co-workers that worked on Master's programs at the University of Phoenix. They liked the flexibility around our long irregular work hours. I never heard anything negative about the University of Phoenix.

I am currently working on my Masters in Adult Curriculum at UOP and it is awesome. The instructors really value the opinion of veterans and there are many veterans taking classes at UOP. I've heard many horror stories about UOP, but having received a BS in Business Management from there, I've yet to experience any. It's opened plenty of doors for me, but then again any college degree would I guess. I think it matters what you do with the degree and what you put into it. Just my opinion though.

There are plenty of great schools that offer online and affordable graduate degree plans. I am currently in the final semester of my Masters degree with the University of Oklahoma. My graduate program choices led me between Central Michigan University, Michigan State University, and the University of Oklahoma. In short, it depends of your degree plan - and there a plent of great universities that can satisfy your needs. Research this huge decision.

My brother received a Master's in hospice care from there(he also has a Master's in geriatric nursing from Penn State). He has nothing but good things to say about the program.

UoP is a for-profit university. At one point the government stopped allow GI Bill or TA to go towards the university.

My recommendations from experience are University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and Central Michigan University (CMU). Bonus, if you are done with your Captains course you can get graduate credits transferred. Super bonus if you are an ILE graduate, You can get up to 15 graduate credits to transfer, depending on the program you chose.

My sister in law obtained her HR undergrad degree from them. She did the hybrid program when they had more ground campuses and has done quite well. Her student debt was/is quite significant. There are schools that offer quality educational programs at a much lower cost.

Obtaining more education is always a plus. There are lots of options to chose from...spend the time to find out which is best for your individual circumstances (time available to invest, degree, future plans, $$$, etc.). Find as many "Military Admissions" advisors as you can and ask them a lot of hard questions about the details.

What is your end objective? In other words how do you want to use your degree? Then ask representatives from companies you might be interested in what they look for in terms of skills and degrees and how they would treat a degree from that institution. You can accomplish a couple of things that way. First you get the answer to your question and secondly you are building up contacts. You might also explore professional organizations. There used to be one for HR professionals, there is of course several for engineers (e.g. IEEE) and I am sure there are others depending upon your chosen area.
