I used to have life insurance when I was active (SGLI) I think. Can I still get a military discounted Life Insurance like that as a vet?

If you were a catholic, try Knights of Columbus. They have good insurance. Also you have armed forces Mutual benefit Association.
AFBA.
My physical from Knights of Columbus counted for the afba insurance as well. You can get different types of insurance and I got a 10-year term insurance.
Maybe others have different experiences or plans that I didn't mention.

YES, LTC. CONWAY,
I'm Glad You Mentioned "TERM LIFE"...
It's Always Your Best Bang For The Buck... I Use To Sell That Stuff.
WHOLE LIFE Is One Of Their Best Profit Makers, But Don''t Let Them Talk You Into It..
They'll Tell You "You Can Borrow From Your Insurance Policy".... And It IS True...
But NOT ENTIRELY At All........It's Used As Collateral, But The Loan Is Made With Interest; Just As Are All Other Loans....Buy TERM LIFE And Save YOURSELF That Bundle.....
Don't Let Them Make YOUR Money THEIRS...
P.S.... My Brother Jim, Lived His Entire Adult Life In Panama, And Owned Several Businesses Out-Right. One Of Them Was An Insurance Company; "La Tienda de Seguros", And It Helped Make Him A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE. ..So I'm Speaking From My Experience & His Total Knowledge.....NOT "Shooting In The Dark".
Do Yourself A Favor & Stick With TERM LIFE....Even Here In Vegas, It's "Your Best Bet"

In addition to what LTC (Join to see), I suggest you check out the various reviews on the companies offering life insurance for veterans. You'll often get different lists, but they will point you in the direction that is best for your situation.
Life insurance is like a lot of things in life - there is no set answer to "what is best", but you can find "what is best for my situation" - premiums, medical exam required, amount of coverage, ages covered, etc. Many times it comes down to "pick your top two or three criteria" (sometimes it's "pick your primary criteria") to get the best for you.
https://va.org/life-insurance-companies/ has a good list of criteria to get you started (can't comment about the recommendations as I'm not that familiar with va.org)
A couple of the more reputable sites that I'm familiar with and links to their reviews:

https://www.thebalancemoney.com/best-life-insurance-for-veterans-4846811
