Fountain/Security have a lot of nice, affordable places to live south of Ft. Carson.Response by LTC Jason Strickland made Aug 25 at 2019 9:56 AM2019-08-25T09:56:34-04:002019-08-25T09:56:34-04:00SSG Willis Baker4955098<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>My experience of Ft. Carson dates back to 1974-1976. It was a great first duty station. There was lots to do back then and there is probably tons more now. I've been back a number of times when I visit my sister-in-law in Pueblo. A lot of new barracks complexes. They built a new hospital, new commissary and PX. You can drive to the Air Force Academy and watch Falcon's Football and go to Denver for Bronco's Football. And Cheyenne Mountain is great. When it snowed I would drive up mountain to the old mining towns. <br />You'll have a great time there. Best of luck to you.Response by SSG Willis Baker made Aug 25 at 2019 2:05 PM2019-08-25T14:05:05-04:002019-08-25T14:05:05-04:00SGT Bryant Young4956641<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The units will have you very busy... I made some good friends but didn't regret leaving the unit I was assigned to.<br /><br />That being said, Colorado Springs and the surrounding area is a beautiful city with soooo many activities and things to do outside with phenomenal weather most of the year. I plan on returning at some point, wether in or out of the military.Response by SGT Bryant Young made Aug 25 at 2019 11:52 PM2019-08-25T23:52:20-04:002019-08-25T23:52:20-04:00SGT Brandon Culpepper4962763<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was stationed there from 2002-2008, Colorado Springs is not your typical Army town which is a good thing if you can behave yourself. Living off post was hard but proper time management for driving on and off post will be key if you live off post. You’re an hour from Denver and 15 minutes from Manitou Springs which is gorgeous. Make the most of your time there and invest in year around tires, the snow gets DEEP!Response by SGT Brandon Culpepper made Aug 27 at 2019 4:10 PM2019-08-27T16:10:59-04:002019-08-27T16:10:59-04:00SGT Darin Jenkins4973041<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Stay out of the night clubs DRUGS ARE EVERYWHERE. The elevation is over 6000 feet so you may have a little difficulty running at first. I never liked living off post if you can get locked in and retire at Ft Carson then I would suggest buying a house off post but if not id recommend staying in onpost housing.Response by SGT Darin Jenkins made Aug 30 at 2019 1:54 PM2019-08-30T13:54:39-04:002019-08-30T13:54:39-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member4980971<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Extremely expensiveResponse by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 1 at 2019 10:11 PM2019-09-01T22:11:19-04:002019-09-01T22:11:19-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member5010805<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The housing market is amazing so don't be afraid to go for an inexpensive house if you're good with home improvement. BAH was $1,550 for me as a SPC so you have a bit of leeway when it comes to the area you want to live in. There are tons of amazing places to live off post if you have an area in mind feel free to message me and I can give you some tips on where to stay and what places to avoid. As for units good luck. 3ABCT is where careers tend to end. They've had a stint of terrible leadership for years. I hope it gets better during your time there for you. If you have any other questions feel free to message me.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 10 at 2019 1:58 PM2019-09-10T13:58:58-04:002019-09-10T13:58:58-04:002019-08-25T00:41:21-04:00
