Last I checked, civilians do not have general military authority.
-or-
No, you pay taxes to the federal and state governments. The money goes into a pool of money, which provides the budget for the armed forces. You elected a president to serve as Commander-in-Chief. I usually ignore it. Occasionally they repeat it a couple times but mostly when you do not react they move on to some other complaint or gripe. Typically the person that brings this up is mad at the establishment and as a rep of that establishment they are simply taking out pent-up frustration on you. It is almost never personal. As a professional you should be able to realize that these type people are not harmful (usually) and it is best to be the more civil person and ignore the jab and continue with whatever the mission is at that time. Making childish and immature comments to these people simply re-enforces their belief. It also can encourage them to escalate the encounter which will never end well no matter if you win. Depends on tone of questioner, but we are expected to at least try to be goodwill ambassadors with the public. If it's a wise guy they often are baiting folks and have a pal with a smartphone filming, and you trashing them on youtube with a million hits might not be a good career move. That's assuming this is not some creep jumping on a burning flag, calling you a baby-killer etc because that's a challenge for even the most patient. If not, just try to be tactful if they are, and remind them that you pay taxes also and you make many sacrifices to protect the USA. If it's someone being snarky, just tell them that when you took your Oath you wrote a check to the Nation for an amount up to and including your life. If that doesn't do it, do yourself a favor and walk away because it's not worth an assault charge and all the costs that go with it. Best wishes.Response by CWO3 Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 30 at 2016 6:50 PM2016-11-30T18:50:04-05:002016-11-30T18:50:04-05:00Robert Santos7051054

My normal response?
