For an E-5 with 7 years, that would be around $460/month. You would have to pay for Tricare on your own dime.

You would also get paid for 2 weeks of Annual Training, which would be around $1750.

As a National Guardsman, you may have opportunities to go on active duty status for schools, etc., and you would get paid just as you would on active duty for any day of service.

In summary, the National Guard is not a way to make a real living. It can't be your primary income source. (Unless you're deployed, then different rules kick in.) I think tricare with family is a little over 100 per month. I pay 49.50 for individual. Not too bad at all. Right now, the family premium is about $210/month. Its extremely affordable. Whether going guard in general is worth it really depends on what your plan is. I'm an E-6 with 18 years and I still make jack squat for my drill weekends compared to what I was making on active duty even as a private, but it does allow me to attend school to finish out my education plans and keep serving, which is the whole reason I left active to begin with, so, for me, its worth it. Without knowing what you're looking for when you get out, its kind of a difficult question to answer. I didn't join the military to "get rich". I was 10 year active and joined the Reserves for the next 20 years - I deployed to AFG in 2009 and would love to go back today to help my bothers and sisters - regardless of how much I'd get paid... Heck, I'd do it for free! :-)

I guess my point is - don't decide to join the reserves just based on the money - do it if you still want to serve your country - if you do join the reserves, I seriously doubt you will regret the decision. I know I don't! I pay 204.00 each month. It pays good once you met the copay for individual or family. The wife takes 1 shot a week and its like 800 a month but they pay it.Dental is separate. My dental comes out of drill check and the wife's is 25 per month and it doesn't pay tht great.
