I would go to a running store. I have found it to be difficult to pick a shoe on your own. So many of them say this and that about how awesome they are. If you go to a place like Dick's Sporting Goods they will only know what is on the box. I went to a place where live where they watch you walk barefoot and they they recommend a shoe. After you try it on they tell you to run around the block to see how you like it. I love places like that. There isn't any one shoe that that is great for everyone. I just can't see myself self spending $100+ on a good pair of running shoes. I have been running with a really good pair of Asics for years. And not that expensive. I put in a fair amount of miles, so I go through 2-4 pairs a year. If you a running a lot of roads go for a bit more padding. I still can't get behind the Hoka One One trend, but I wear shoes with a bit more padding and a bit bigger heel/toe differential (4mm drop). New Balance has always fit me well. I am also a big fan of Merrell. The Merrell Bare Access 2 is probably my all time favorite shoe. Little bit of padding and 0mm heel/toe drop. The New Balance 730 series has been my shoe of choice for LONG road runs/races.
