I enjoyed my time there. I was there almost 2 years before retiring. They are about training like most places and it does get really cold, but they are good people up there. You will have fun if you like to do stuff outdoors like hunting and fishing.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made May 18 at 2018 7:33 AM2018-05-18T07:33:43-04:002018-05-18T07:33:43-04:00SPC David Dupey3655830

The weather is good june july August the terrain is alot of moss over water bogs good fishing Fairbanks has alot of one way roads you can rock hunt and hunt and guard shiftsResponse by SPC David Dupey made May 23 at 2018 9:59 PM2018-05-23T21:59:22-04:002018-05-23T21:59:22-04:00SPC(P) Private RallyPoint Member3693112

Fort Wainwright is kind of a "to each their own" duty station. Depending on what you and your family like to do is going to most likely dictate how you enjoy your time here. Lots of out door activities and places to drive. I highly encourage you to take advantage of your leave and 4 days to explore southern Alaska (Best parts). As for the units here, you're gonna do a lot of dumb stuff that somehow is different from the typical dumb Army stuff. I would say that the worst part of my experience is they don't do much training in the winter due to the coldness and lack of daylight, then spring and summer hits and it's balls to the wall crammed up training that usually is poorly planned time management wise.. Kinda sucks cause you look forward to the end of winter and are ready for good weather and outdoor time and they usually end up taking about half of it. The morale of the BDE is pretty shit and I can't speak to as of why because everyone has their own opinions of what they don't like about this place. Really Wainwright is just a place you have to get to and form your own ideas and feelings about it because some people love it and some people absolutely despise it. Also as a Stryker systems maintainer you will have a lot of work because I was told a few weeks ago that Wainwright has the oldest fleet of Strykers in the Army. Our Maintenance guys are constantly working long hours and sometimes weekends.

P.S. God bless your soul if you find yourself in the BSBResponse by SPC(P) Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 7 at 2018 6:40 PM2018-06-07T18:40:30-04:002018-06-07T18:40:30-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member3743199

If you haven't already arrived, the Strykers are old. I'm talking 03-07 fleet but we are slated to get new ones next NTC rotation.

As a mechanic your hours fluctuate due to training being as our Stryker are so old. Problem is also, crews don't assist. This is my second rotation to Wainwright and it's a different animal than it was before Recruiting but we have Leaders that want to back the use of Strykers no so it is promising.

Gorgeous place Anchorage has more to do but Fairbanks in fun in its own right.
As long as you find things to do, don't expect many chain restaurants but enjoy the mom and pop owned ones that this community thrives under.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 26 at 2018 4:34 AM2018-06-26T04:34:29-04:002018-06-26T04:34:29-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member3747137

Thank you for everyones input, im just excited to get out of recruiting.
