I’m NG, my BF is active. We plan to get married. Is it possible for him to be stationed nearby while I’m in flight school? 2018-11-21T20:14:50-05:00 2LT Private RallyPoint Member 4147399

I will be on active duty orders for 18 months. His current duty station is Ft. Wainwright. There is nothing for an Infantry Officer at Rucker. It is also unlikely that a recent Ranger grad would be allowed away from troops for an extended period. All things are possible, he will have to speak to his command and then Branch manager. Not trying to dampen your hopes, just being realistic. Thank you for your service. He probably won't, but he could. But then you would PCS after flight school and he would still be at Benning for several years. He could apply for AVN through your State. Each State is a little different, but I know our State has two active duty O3s that are going through the Conditional Release process. They were selected by our Aviator Selection Board and they are heading our way. It is not an overnight process (takes a few months) but once released from the Active Component, they will be appointed into the ARNG (As WOs, we insist on reversion). We are then sending them to flight school. Shot in the dark, and the process takes a few months, but if you’re getting married and he is going to leave The RA anyway, I can promise you he’d enjoy being an Aviator in the ARNG more than an Infantry officer. Food for thought. It’s radical, and one should have a much better cause to pursuing Aviation than chasing their girlfriend around... BUT... if it something he’s considered doing, it is not impossible. My wife and I had a blast in Flight School. Some of our best friends were dual military couples going through at the same time. It’s not outside the realm of possibility. Good luck! The assignment request would still be possible, just not as likely.
If he stays active duty, your only option would be to IST every time he gets PCS'ed.
