What is it like going back to basic with a combat deployment. How are you treated and so on. I'll be going back for my same MOS as a 19K and had to the one station unit training the first time. Will I be going through normal basic the second time or will I go through OSUT again? The reason they do not want to send PS through standard OSUT/BCT training is because YOU are too dangerous. You know too much. My experience is that you need to expect to be treated greatly different than the standard trainees. Do not even be surprised if you are barracked in the day room and basically left to your own devices when not training? Also, be prepared to be shunned by other trainees and Drill Sergeants...hope I'm wrong but have heard those type of stories. Some things to expect is to see a lot of counseling for every little thing that you or the other Trainees do. There is no more "quitting". at least in my unit, (Not sure if it was BDE policy) but if you try to quit you'll get a FG Art 15 45/45. Then you'll get recycled. Rinse and repeat. The current CMD team there is all about "trimming the fat" before sending Soldiers to the line. Also it would be in your best interest to get into shape before you go. There are people who show up who can't even do a single push up correct, so if you show up able to PT, and look like you know what you're doing things will be good for you. Who knows you might even get a weekend pass here and there. Though they were also NCO's so I'm not sure if you'll get better treatment or not. As having already been through the Drill Sergeants may utilize you to assist with training on the range and obstacle courses as they did with out NCO's. They were aslo allowed to hit up the PX and do other stuff on weekends and had constant access to their phones and a tv.

If they treat you the same as any recruit we if didn't fuck up were allowed to get our phones on Sunday to speak with our families for 10 minutes. We fucked up a lot so that didn't happen. Kinda wish they were as my flabby ass could not pass a PT test any more but I guess that just means I need to get to work. And to answer a few of my own questions for anyone else looking for info on this subject. The info they gave me is that because I am MOS trained already they would not have sent me back to OSUT but would have instead sent me to a normal BCT unit. I would have also lost a single rank putting back down as a PFC SPC Matthew Patterson Fri, 21 Oct 2016 06:05:26 -0400 2016-10-21T06:05:26-04:00 2016-10-14T12:08:17-04:00
