I have had a few interviews but so far, nothing. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I know they want degrees now (even to just work for UPS as a driver...) But I'm too finacially weak to attempt a degree and need money for bills, not for bills two or four years from now. First is your resume. Second, are you networking your community. There is an event for some group or organization on most weekend. It will not pay you anything but have you considered volunteer work. Then there is LinkedIn, have you built a profile. Now for school, there are course you can take for free. Certifications that could be helpful. Look me up on LinkedIn, email me your resume. I also found my current job by placing my DA photo and a quick background on a Facebook group page created for local employers and employees to connect. My employer sought me out and gave me the job offer, i didn't even call him! So do a search for groups like that in your area. Take a long look at the things you've accomplished over the last few years, and ask yourself how similar those responsibilities and skills are to working with some of the best on the pipelines. I looked at Best Buy in my area and there was two seasonal jobs but they didn't require a degree. My father has been telling me to try for Geeksquad since I know a lot about home theater and electronics but the Geeksquad they have near them is HUGE...the best buys in my area, the geek squad is non-existent.<br /><br />This may be due to the fact that geek squad is big business down here (lots of seniors who don't know any better) while in my area it's kind of the opposite. I don't know if you've finished your first enlistment yet, but veterans get preferential treatment for federal jobs. You can upload your résumé and DD-214 online, then apply for jobs from your computer. You can also search for jobs in your area. If you live within driving distance of the Mississippi River, the Corps of Engineers is always looking for Deckhands on River Operations.
