When switching from Army to the Marine Corps, will my time in rank transfer over?

I know I have to be demoted to join the corps and was wondering if I will keep my previous time in grade

I had a SFC in Armor 19K CAARNG ( Back when marines had real tanks) he was a Master Gunner E-7. The marine corps would not take his rank. He would be an E-1 As a marine corps reservist. He worked as a civilian contractor at china lake to a job on the East Coast. He decided not to join them. I lost track of him and I don't know if he joined a national guard unit instead.

I would say the answer is no.But let me ask a couple leaders here on RP.

Your time in service and most awards (some awards that don't have a Marine Corps equivalent won't be allowed to be worn in uniform but will still be reflected in your SRB) will carry over but your time in grade resets because the start date for TIG is when you pin on the respective rank. I wouldn't expect anything higher than E-2 coming out of bootcamp.

TIG is always adjusted when taking a reduction in rank. TIS won't be reduced, but TIG will.

No, it won't as SSgt Christophe Murphy has stated you'll more than likely be assessed into the Corps as a Pfc. I had two friends enter the Corps after service in the Army. One was a SGT and the other a CPL. Both graduated boot camp as Pfc's.

Simple answer No! You will be lucky to come out of boot camp as PFC (E-2). But if you’re the platoon honor graduate then probably LCPL (E-3).

It also depends on the job you're getting. Musicians by default, for instance, enter the Corps as an E2 vs an E1. Other MOS have accelerated promotions as well.

you will maintain time in service. time in grade will reset to the day you are enlisted

When you switch from Army to Marine Corps, your time in rank doesn't directly transfer over. Since you'll be demoted to join the Corps, you'll start fresh with their time-in-grade requirements. However, your prior service experience might give you a head start in terms of training and leadership opportunities.
