I’m a Sergeant and I’m a 91B. I’m toying with reclassing to a 68W. How long would AIT would be?

Part of that depends on your component. When I reclassed into the reserves I took a course at Ft. Bragg that was about 2 months long, compared to the 4 months in TX for regular 68W's. I'm almost certain that this school wasn't open to the active component. We didn't have access to all the high-speed resources that troops do down at Ft. Sam-Houston (JSBA), but we had a relaxed environment.

At the time, I was really glad for the accelerated course. We had good cadre and we worked hard. But, in hindsight I think I could have been a better medic, been proficient at more than just stopping the bleeding and treating heat injuries. Another 2 months of studying and drilling would probably have done me some good.

You're not eligible for 68W due to your rank. You would need to contact the branch manager and request a grade waiver.

As for the original question, E5 medics are the senior medic. If you don't know how to be a medic you will have difficulty leading junior medics who know more than you

68W school is 16 Weeks, divided up into two phases. You have the EMT side, then you have "whiskey land", where you learn your field craft. I am uncertain as to what SFC Boyd is referring to, since there were E-5s and E-6s who were reclassing that attended my class in 2005. I attended the course at FT Sam Houston. Mr Geer, are you Active Duty or NG? NG offers Reclass schools in a select few areas. But you will want to attend the FT Sam Houston School House.
