You will be near the Atlantic Ocean so it is always humid there. The winters are not bad there, it frosts less than 10 times on average. Be prepared for ample time in the field, 3rd ID loves its field time. Also be prepared to be a Mechanic, regardless of your primary MOS. In a heavy mech division you spend a majority of your time in the motor pool ensuring that your vehicles are FMC. If you end up in a Combined Arms Battalion, get ready for a lot of Gunnery with the Tanks and Bradleys. I would recommend finding a house in Richmond Hill over Hinesville, there are better houses and facilities there. Good luck, and get ready to say "Rock of the Marne" a lot!!Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 7 at 2016 10:43 AM2016-06-07T10:43:30-04:002016-06-07T10:43:30-04:00SP5 Private RallyPoint Member1605004<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="586698" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/586698-25u-signal-support-systems-specialist-293rd-mp-385th-mp">SGT Private RallyPoint Member</a> Congratulations omn your promotion to SERGEANT, not E-5. You have every right to be proud of the accomplishment, and referring to yourself by the proper rank title is appropriate and right. Just some words from and old E-5, back when the distinction was between NCO and Specialist ranks. Good luck in your career Sergeant!Response by SP5 Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 7 at 2016 12:43 PM2016-06-07T12:43:03-04:002016-06-07T12:43:03-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member1608232<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Just left Stewart after a 3 yr hitch. It's not bad. The base itself is huge with enough to do. The roads are simple in the areas surrounding so you can quickly get familiar with Hinesville and Jessup. Unfortunately like a lot of our posts, there isn't too many exciting things in the immediate area so save up your leave and pass times to get out of there and have fun. Oh, and "Rock of the Marne?" "Top of the Rock" is how you get on post. Have fun with the Dog Faced Soldiers.....Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 8 at 2016 8:31 AM2016-06-08T08:31:58-04:002016-06-08T08:31:58-04:00WO1 Private RallyPoint Member1653464<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Every post is what you make of it. Expect lots of field time and high humidity. The area is close enough to the beaches if you like that. On post housing is decent. If you are considering off post avoid Hinesville. Because you are not a combat arms MOS expect to catch some flak from the grunts. You'll get more peer contact there, than you would at a smaller post.Response by WO1 Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 22 at 2016 9:23 AM2016-06-22T09:23:56-04:002016-06-22T09:23:56-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member1700941<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>First off its Sgt battle, E-5 is what you get paid.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 8 at 2016 7:25 PM2016-07-08T19:25:32-04:002016-07-08T19:25:32-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member1753196<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I'm at Stewart right now. It's not bad, has its ups and downs like any other place. Hinesville is the immediate area outside the gate. Their slowing building it up. It has 3 Walmarts right now and their in the process of building a new shopping center. Most people go to Savannah, Tybee Island, or Jacksonville to do things without having to take leave. If you fish or hunt you'll always have something to do.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 26 at 2016 9:04 PM2016-07-26T21:04:11-04:002016-07-26T21:04:11-04:00SGT Richard Smith1790937<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>As one SGT to another also a 25U20. I was stationed at Ft. Stewart when I was lower enlisted in the early an mid 90's I could not stand this place at all. To me it sucked due to the lack of anything to do in the immediate area. At the timethe only thing local to do was go to a bar named hurricanes or the big apple (strip club) or go bull riding. If you are not into any of those things there is always Savannah Ga which is on the coast of the atlantic ocean an is a haven for college kids. So it is not all that bad but can be if not into these things.<br />As for command at this post I can't tell you much because my time there was so long agoResponse by SGT Richard Smith made Aug 9 at 2016 11:01 AM2016-08-09T11:01:45-04:002016-08-09T11:01:45-04:002016-06-06T22:17:04-04:00
