I’m a new National Guardsman, and I haven’t been paid for my first two drills. My recruiter hasn’t resolved it. Who should I go to next?

I haven’t been through OSUT yet and I’m doing RSP at a base which is not my home one since I’m in school far away. I’d be patient about it but rent is due soon and I really need the money. What’s the protocol here? I’m in PA.

Since you have not gone thru Basic and AIT, you are not really required to attend your BTAs. But, when you do, you are supposed to get paid. Talk with your NCOs and make sure that your Direct Deposit has been submitted and to also submit a Pay Inquiry. That being said, if you are attending BTAs that is not of your unit and somewhere else with a different unit, then you need to ensure that there is a "Reschedule For Training" form properly filled out and submitted with a DD Form 1380. If these are not submitted, then there is no record of duties performed, and therefore, no pay will be issued. So, Step One is getting with your NCOs. By the way, this is ALWAYS Step One.

Welcome to the Army National Guard. I spent one year with them and they still owe me money. I left and went regular Army, in my home state the Army guard is a joke.

Usually you should have a Readiness NCO. They are the ones that log that you were there for drill. But in an RSP they may not have one. I would just keep bugging him just about everyday until you get a date to which you will get paid. I have seen soldiers in the Guard be on active duty for training and not get paid for months. The National Guard stopped paying while I was in Ranger School. All I can really say is that I hope you enjoy what you will be doing. If not you aren't going to like. You are seeing how the Guard works most of the time when it comes to pay issues. I went the route of MSG Dan Castaneda. I left the Guard and went back to the Regular Army.

Find out if you signed the sign-in roster for each drill. They have a copy of it. That's what they're going to have to submit through the s-1 to your higher headquarters to make sure you get paid. The S1 will talk to the G1 in an email. You will get paid. I switch from the Army National guard to active duty in the National Guard then gone through the irr to get into the Army Reserve and they usually get the pay squared away quickly. There should be an E7 in the s-1 shop that should be able to take care of your pay problem.

Your unit, not the recruiter, is responsible for paying you.
What is needed in order to do that is a DA 1380 signed and certified by a person with personal knowledge of you completing the work detailed on the form.
My guess is that either your recruiter has not completed the form, did not transmit it to your Unit Administrator (or pay official), or the UA is not putting it in for pay. Those are really the only three possibilities, so follow each in order until you find resolution.

Use your chain of command. A good first sergeant or CSM can help you resolve problems with personnel and finance.

There should be someone at your RSP unit that can assist you with that, I got lucky and got paid no problem but some guys had issues. There should be an RSP Sergeant or Drill Sergeant you can talk to about it. Your Recruiter won't be able to help with pay, they do assist with RSP but they have other duties. RSP is kind of like your introduction to what Drill will be like, it has a looser structure but there are admins in charge of finance, etc. It might even be a DA Civilain, mine was.

PV2 Piombino-Mattis, the correct protocol would be to take it up your chain of command first. Dont go to your recruiter, your team leader is the one that you should inform and if that doesnt work notify your 1SG or your S-1. The S-1 should then have you fill out a paper and then they will take it to the Military Finance building on the base and it should then be taken care of.

Go up the chain of command. Talk to your e5 then if he dosnt help you go straight to your e6, then if that doesn't work find your smoke, and last resort find top and ask him.

I would wait and see what your recruiter says after a little bit...maybe check in with him/her on the status of the paperwork? That kinda stuff takes FOREVER in the army sadly...but you don’t wanna go around your recruiter or anything...gotta go up the chain of command properly....wait for him/her to give you a go to talk to someone higher

You should have a chain of command floating somewhere- it's not the recruiters job- Find your unit 1SG/CDR or PAC/Finance and tell them the story.
