I just got my orders and will be stationed at Walter Reed, Washington DC. Any recommendations for where to live around there?

Well if you are a SPC you will live in barracks. If you have a family, better off staying on post at Belvoir. If you have to live on economy.. best to search for places 10 to 15 miles away due to cost of living will take your whole bah plus .

The good thing about Walter Reed is that the facility is right next to a Metro Stop. You can live practically anywhere in DC and get there quick. Bethesda is EXPENSIVE, as is Chevy Chase, Georgetown, etc. It really depends on what you are looking for. If you are single and want the city life I would suggest an apartment in the District, maybe Adams-Morgan. If you are more the suburban type then a good place to look is Rockville. There is a lot of new development in that area and it is very to get to Walter Reed from there. Welcome to the National Capital Region. I got assigned here in 2006 and never left!

SPC Gabrielle Murray - I don't know the situation if there is military housing available at Bethesda/Walter Reed Area. I was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA. But You can check on the Automated Housing Referral Network: https://www.ahrn.com/ They list military friendly rental homes, townhomes and apartments.

As someone who previously lived in Maryland for over 20 years, I can attest to previous comments regarding traffic. My parents live in the Germanton/Rockville area and the commute will most definitely be tough. 495 and 270 are always a pain. How close are you wanting or required to be to your duty station? Another suggestion is to purchase the speed pass!
