I have the time to retire, but I was told that I needed to re-enlist in order for my son to use the GI bill for school. Your retirement will be denied until you've served the four years or you rescind the transfer. If your dependent uses any of your benefits and you rescind the transfer you will be responsible for repaying the tuition, the BAH, and the stipends that were paid. Go to milconnect, log in, and click on “transfer my benefits”. You will find a full explanation there, along with a POC for each branch you can contact. That’s where you will get the most definitive and up to date answer.
