I have a curious question if you are recieving VA disability can one also collect SSI for your disability?

There are specific rules in place, but yes. It is usually when you hit the "unemployable" stage (60-70%) on VA side for a disability that this comes into play.

Are you in the military now going through a MED Board? The SSDI is based on how much you have paid into SS. And I think it tops around $2200/month outlay per month.

SPC Robert Borton I think you meant SSDI, which you can collect.

SSI (which is what you actually typed) is income-based, and your benefits would likely put you over the limit. I'd call SSA to find out for sure.

Yes, you can collect both...however most SSI doesn't allow you to work and make more than a certain amount. In my dad's case, he would not be able to work and make more than $300 per month.

You can collect both. approval/disapproval of one does not effect the approval/disapproval of the other. Its comparing Apples to Oranges.

Yes, you can collect both SSDI and VA disability. There is no income cap for disability payments. Social Security Supplemental Income (SSI) is is income based.

I'm not expert on this area, but I was told by one authority that you can not get disability based payments from Social Security if you have previously opted to draw early payment of normal benefits. In my case at age 52 instead of waiting for the "normal" retirement age.
