They can give you the in and outs of the AGR program. I know when I looked into years back you had to join a drilling guard or reserve unit first before applying. States have a tendency to be "who you know" and it's very political. I know it's tough and hard on families and it has dangerous times. But being a civilian has pretty much the same and you end up paying allot more as a civilian. Life Insurance, health insurance and allot of other things. Think on it hard before you get out. What will be the plus and minus. A Soldier must be in a Ready Reserve status and a member of the Reserve Component of the Army to which the application for entry in the AGR Program is made.<br /><br />2. If in the Regular Army, Soldier must agree to accept discharge from the Regular Army with concurrent appointment or enlistment in the United States Army Reserve. Appointment or enlistment must be completed prior to reporting to an initial AGR entry point.<br /><br />Note - Active Duty Soldiers that are not in an indefinite status are not eligible for consideration by the accession panel until they are within one year from ETS date. If recommended, an offer cannot be extended until Soldier is within 60-90 days from ETS date.<br /><br />RULE B - Age.<br /><br />1. Must be at least 18 years of age.<br /><br />2. Must not have reached his/her 55th birthday (enlisted only).<br /><br />RULE C - Physical and Medical.<br /><br />1. Prior to entry on active duty (AD) in the AGR Program, Soldier must be medically certified as drug free, tested negative for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and not be pregnant, per ARs 40-501 and AR 600-110.<br /><br />2. Must meet body composition/weight control standards prescribed by AR 600-9.<br /><br />3. Must meet the medical fitness standards for retention per Chapter 3, AR 40-501. When appropriate, Soldier must also meet the medical fitness standards for flying duty per Chapter 4, AR 40-501, or the medical fitness standards for miscellaneous purposes per Chapter 5, AR 40-501. If Soldier has PULHES numerical indicators of P3 or P4, requirements of AR 600-60 must be met prior to accessioning into the AGR Program.<br /><br />RULE D - Military Education (see Table 2-2, Rule A, for waiver of items 1b through 1d only).<br /><br />An enlisted Soldier must have completed initial entry training (IET).<br /><br />RULE E - Years of Service (see Table 2-2, Rule B). Must be able to complete a 3-year initial tour of AD prior to -<br /><br />1. Completing 18 years of active service.<br /><br />2. The date of mandatory removal from active status based on age or service (without any extensions) under any provision of law or regulation, as prescribed by current directives.<br /><br />RULE F - Grade and Specialty (see Table 2-2, Rule E).<br /><br />Enlisted Soldiers - (Must be in grade E4 through E8, e.g. SPC/CPL through MSG/1SG)<br /><br />1. Staff sergeant or above must possess the grade equal to or one grade above the grade required for the AGR duty position.<br /><br />2. Sergeant or below must possess the grade equal to or one grade above the grade required for the AGR duty position and have potential for qualification in the MOS required for the AGR duty position during initial attachment.<br /><br />3. Sergeant in MOS 79R or 79V may be attached to a SFC position.<br /><br />RULE G - Reenlistment or Extension (see Table 2-2, Rule F, of this handout). If enlisted, Soldier must be eligible for reenlistment or extension per AR 140-111 (to include not exceeding the retention control point (RCP) for your current grade).<br /><br />RULE H - Administrative Requirement. When required by policy promulgated under paragraph 1-4, Soldier must sign an appropriate certificate of agreement and understanding relative to service on AGR status.<br /><br />RULE I - Security Clearance.
