I found this humorous. What are your thoughts on this "futuristic and friendly" FOB concept?

So...Iowa State design students created a concept for a FOB/COP. Not only are their designs futuristic, but they are fanciful. Interesting and totally absurd when it comes to the implementation. Maybe on an airfield in a permissive environment where the airmen can enjoy it and the Soldiers can go on R&R, but not a COP.

I concur COL Private RallyPoint Member for some reason this reminds me of the movie Avatar. I am not sure why since the predominant color is white not blue :-)
I suppose this is a kinder and gentler FOB for future conflict which won't be expected to be like the Hunger Games.

This would be a wonderful idea for a college quad.

Working in the architectural & design community, we often look at many factors. One that comes immediately to mind: Sustainability. Wow, it looks nice. But, can the design sustain itself under "normal" use? How many mortar rounds can this absorb while both maintaining its structural integrity and providing continuous safety to its occupants? Nice concept --if your a college student in Ames, Iowa.

Happy to see somebody's trying out there. Just wish they'd pulled in a few combat vets with multiple deployments to dirty, sandy places that take mortars occasionally.

Security (and "fields of fire") were obviously not among the "daily operations" they considered. I found the 155mm positioned next to the tall awning over the vehicle park illuminating.
