I broke my right arm, damaged my nerves and was put on a permanent profile (that says I can't lift over 60 pounds). What will happen to me?

Were you given a P2 or a P3? If you received a P3, then you will probably face a Medical Evaluation Board to see if you can continue service...whether this be as a 13B or service period. If you received a P2, that will be completely up to your Chain, otherewise continue on doing everything you can within the limits of the profile. And, if you were given physical therapy, follow that therapy to the letter. Work closely with your PT and after some time, get re-evaluated to see if your arm is better and the profile can be removed.

To be honest, I couldn’t tell you about today’s Military. I do know with the profile you say you have. If it was 1992-1994 and you were in the Air Force. The first thing they would do, is Med Board you. They would first determine if you were still Worldwide Qualified. If the answer to that question was a “No”. They would give you a percentage of disability, tell you that the V.A. will increase it (don’t hold your breath on that one), give you a severance pay, and ship you home with an Honorable Discharge. If the answer is a “Yes”. Chances are they would cross train you into another AFSC/MOS, one that you could do that would not require lifting greater than 50 pounds. Due to your profile is set at 60 pounds. More than likely an administration type AFSC/MOS. But like I said, I’m not sure about today’s Military. I practically beg the Air Force to let me stay in. I even pointed out that I was trained as a 911 Telecommunication Officer. Since I was Fire Protection Specialist and knew that Air Force Fire Departments used on duty Fire Protection Specialist to man their Communication Centers. Why not let me stay in and do that. But due to my back injury, I got Med Board out. Then a couple months later to of the Army’s Black Knights collided with each other during a jump. As I understand it. One lost his life, the other lost the lower part of his legs. The one that lost his legs, was able to stay for 3 or 4 more years. So he could retire with full benefits. He had something like 17 years in at the time of the incident. That’s why I say I couldn’t tell you.

More than likely a MEB if it is a P3, P2- I hope you have a secondary MOS that you can handle with the P2.
