I am wanting to switch from Army NG to Army. I have not yet gone to basic but have sworn in. Has anyone done this? What was the process like?

I went from the Guard to active duty but after I did basic and AIT. I just walked into the recruiter's office and explained that I was NG and wanted to go AD. The recruiter handled the rest. It was painless from my point of view.

Have you been given a BCT date? When and where did you swear in?

Or you can just go now and talk to an Army recruiter to see about going active duty.

Here's my two cents: I've seen PLENTY of soldiers transition to active duty *before* their contract was up, sometimes within the first year, but *after* Basic and AIT. You'll have to do basic and AIT anyway, so if you can't switch beforehand, don't lose hope. You'll get a feel for the army in Initial Entry Training (basic + AIT), so that might influence your decision as well. It's a lot easier to switch from Guard to Active than the other way around. My recommendation, get through training first and talk to your unit when you report if you still feel this way.
