I am switching from IL ARNG to USAR. Where/how can I find a Drill Sergeant slot?

Talk to a recruiter and see what slots are out there. It would depend on how far are you willing to drive. There are several battalions down in Western Kentucky for Drill Sgts in I believe the 95th. Not sure where you live. How is your PT, because to make drill sgt school you have to pass their PT test at their required scores.

I will warn you in advanced that switching from the IL NG is not just a matter of saying you are going to do it, you will have to get your release and approval. I would recommend that you talk to your local USAR Recruiter to help you with the issue.
I know there are Training Units in Illinois and the region...or at least were...often these units will require you to interview before transferring into these units.

You can find USAR unit vacancies on this HRC link. You need to log on with a CAC or AKO. Obviously you need an approved conditional release from the IL ARNG. FYI- if you hold an 11 or 19 series MOS, there are AIT instructor positions in the USAR as well.

I know there is a DS unit on FT Douglas, UT that has slots available. Not sure if you wanna travel that far though

Im a former drill sgt and now a recruiter. Ive been on the USAR side of the house all my career. Talk to the AGR recruiter most larger recruiting center have them, they will sqaure you away.

You will need a 368 signed. I would get the paper work started though.

Do you know which DS units exist in that area? I good way is to go to that unit page and post this there so the people with the open slots can connect with your directly.
