If your CoC likes you, they might let you shoot paper for a 30/30. I never got that treatment, some units do it though.

- There's a lot of really short classes you can take also. Field San, Mail Handler, Bus Driver, etc...

- Correspondence courses are ridiculously easy. Do the skillport ones, you can max those out really fast.

- Awards: Never had an issue with these, BUT, if you passed the board you know how the board works. Soldier of the month is an Easy AAM, Soldier of the Quarter is an Arcom. Get both of those and that's 30 extra points.

- College! No, im not telling you to take courses. Look up NCI, North Central Institute. I never did a day of college before or while I was in the Army. I sent these guys my ERB and 200 dollars, they sent me transcript for 50 credits, which my S1 uploaded. I straight up bought college credits. I highly suggest you do this, it will pay for itself your first E-5 LES. (http://www.nci.edu)

-WLC, I never went but that's also a stack of points. I made SGT 3 months before the end of my second deployment, as soon as I went back I began ACAP. If you have not done this, don't send to NCI yet. If you send WLC paperwork with your ERB to NCI you get extra credits in leadership and some extra stuff.Response by SGT Suraj Dave made Aug 8 at 2014 4:38 AM2014-08-08T04:38:31-04:002014-08-08T04:38:31-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member197644

Congrats. It seems you've already been given a good list of things you can do to get more points, so I will just share a story that ocurred on more than one ocassion with my promotable SPC's and SGTs. During the late 80s, cut-off scores remained high (999) at the form many enlisted MOSs. Once or twice a year they would drop and then shoot right back up. There were many promotable Soldiers out there who became frustrated by the system and would ask, "1SG, what can I do to get some quick points?" I would go thru a list of items with them and would always save for last, "What was your last APFT score?" For many it was around 270-275, with the max being 300. Some would get the hint and some wouldn't. One month the cut-off scores dropped. Two got promoted, one to SGT and one to SSG and two missed the cut by less than 4 points. The two who missed the cut-off had been on the list longer than the two who got promoted. They were mad as hell. When I sat down with them, the 1st question I asked was who were they made at? You know the answer, the Promotion System, the Army, it just wasn't fair. I then asked both, did either of you raise that PT score to above 290-300. Both said no. Just so happened the two who got promoted did exactly that and picked up the extra points they needed to make the cut-off. Bottom line - Don't become frustrated if promotion doesn't come quick, hang in there and keep doing all you can to get more points from every source available to you. Important thing is you're on the list. FYI, I sat on the promotion list for 15 months before I got promoted to both E7 & E8. Your on that train...hang on, hopefully there is more ahead for you. Good luck!Response by 1SG Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 9 at 2014 6:47 PM2014-08-09T18:47:33-04:002014-08-09T18:47:33-04:00CSM Private RallyPoint Member206492

Weapons Qual. Stay out there all day if that's what it takes to max out. PT next. You can improve your score quickly in a short time if you put the effort into it. Then schools and college.Response by CSM Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 16 at 2014 8:45 PM2014-08-16T20:45:54-04:002014-08-16T20:45:54-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member273329

Work on every single area especially the ones you can control.

PT score can be improved on by focusing on each event, improving your form then your overall endurance.
Marksmanship skills are one of the more difficult ones since most personnel only go to the range a couple times a year. The best thing to do for this one is find a firearm enthusiast who owns an AR-15 and would be willing to take you to a civilian range at least once a month. Not only would you get more trigger time but throwing some lead downrange is always fun.

Awards are another difficult one since it's generally up to others to submit you for one. A relatively easy one to get is the MOVSM. Check with your ACS office for volunteer places and keep track of your hours. Present it to your supervisor for an MOVSM submission. For other awards, keep stepping up to the plate and do much more than what is expected of you. For example, if you have a very important inspection coming up, spend more time looking everything over in order to do the best during the inspection. Certain things could warrant an award.

The last two are relatively easy to accumulate although it does take a little bit of time: civilian and military education. As many have mentioned, do correspondence courses or skillport classes. There are a lot of short courses where you could accrue a lot of credit hours very quickly. If you aren't already enrolled in college, do so now. I highly recommend American Military University because it is all online and you do the course work on your own time. You can get a lot of credit hours for promotion points but also for earning a degree.

If you want to know more about the college stuff, let me know.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 11 at 2014 3:59 AM2014-10-11T03:59:36-04:002014-10-11T03:59:36-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member2303145

I have been promotable for 2 years now.
