I am nervous about being honored Sunday with war veterans (my heroes) and I had done so little but serve. How can I combat the nerves?

If you served, did your job as well as you could be proud. It is not you fault that you did not go to war. Be proud of what you did.

Do not be ashamed or held back because all you done is serve. That is already more that over 96% of the general public. You did your job, did it well, that is all that is asked of you. So stand tall next to your fellow brothers and sisters-in-arms on Sunday because you have done your time and done it well.

By enjoying YOUR day! The vast majority of Vets are decent and know people have served varying lengths and various tours ranging from ho hum to hell on a handle; the majority of being closer to the former, not the later. You were part of a great team and great teammates know all contribute. Have fun.

Its great to be humble. No matter where you served you made the choice to serve and put yourself on the line if called for. So be proud of it. My favorite saying when someone calls me a hero because of my record " I'm not a hero but I have had the honor to serve with them."

I think it I honorable that you are humble about your service. But the fact of the matter is that you served...period. It is veterans day, not war veterans day. Because you didn't go to war and were not called to do so doesn't diminish the fact you still served. By signing up to serve, voluntarily I might add, you gave the government a blank check to be cashed later for an amount up to and including your life should that happen. Therefore, you are a veteran. Stand tall and proud with all of those others and enjoy the day.

At one time you stood at attention and gave your word by swearing The Oath many,many people could not or would not make this promise or keep it,you did,I am an old Vietnam Vet and would be proud to stand next to you any time any place, you are my sister in arms stand tall be proud.

Thanks everyone!! Sunday is special to me and everyone there. I just can't believe that i was chosen to be honored and standing with MY heroes. Tried to serve all of my contract, but injuries held me back and to be honored... I am standing up Sunday, graciously and for ALL of you guys and gals cause YOU ARE MY HEROES!

I don't know you so I can't explain your contribution to the fight. But each of us have our own part to play. Not all of us are kicking down doors. I'm an admin Marine so most people brush that off as a simple paper pusher. But I've got 4 pilots who entrust me with their lives every day to make sure aircraft are safe to fly. If I fail in my job pilots could die. That's the seriousness I bring to my job every day and that's how I instill discipline in my Marines. I might not be kicking down doors, but I have Officers who trust me to get them off the ground and back home safely. We all have our parts to play in the grand scheme. You just need to think about what your contribution to the fight is and make peace with that.

I feel the same way, but you signed the contract. You didn't know for sure what that commitment would entail, but you volunteered anyway. I'm at the end of my reserve service and I have done nothing but drill every month. I would never brag about my military service other than to say that it has been an honor and I have boundless love and respect for my fellow service members (almost all of whom have done more than me). I was never a great soldier, but I did what was aked of me as best as I could. Whether my discharge in six months is honorable, or general, I will hold my head high. Humility is key.
