I currently live in Southern Maryland and would consider putting in a packet if I knew there was a high chance of me returning to the area to become a recruiter. I am looking to find out how likely are you to get your assignment preference if volunteer for recruiting detail. 2015-12-03T13:33:52-05:00 SFC(P) Private RallyPoint Member 1147962 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am looking to see if I put in my packet to become a recruiter if I would be able to get the Baltimore area as my assignment. First, call the office you want to go to and see if anyone is due to rotate out around the time you would be checking in. Call some other offices near where you want to go. Build rapport with the office commander and see if you can meet or watch what goes on. See if you can help out somehow. The second, again based on our side of things, is to call the headquarters SgtMaj, let him know you are volunteering for the duty and would like to know what it would take to get a by name request. Normally, if you email your bio and why you'd like to be in the area that helps somewhat. Good luck to you! They prefer to send you to where you are from, if you are from an area that is open you are more likely to get that assignment. But if you do volunteer and get accepted, be prepaird you may not get your choice. Your volunteering to becoming a recruiter, not the incentive. Now, when you say assignment, are you talking the Brigade or Recruiting Station? The more specific you are, the more you are going to want to do your own leg work. The key to USAREC is selling. Start selling yourself on where you want to go. Talk to the BN CSM and let him/her know what you want and have them ask for you to come to their BN...same down to the Station. More than likely if volunteer you are 99% of getting your first choice. Response by SFC A.M.
