I am looking for work in IT. Where do I need to look?

I am enrolled at Western Governors University Texas in BS IT Security. http://texas.wgu.edu/online_it_degrees/information_technology_degree_security

I have completed my A+, N+, Security+, Project+, Linux+/LPIC-1 and now working on my CCENT. I have CCNA and CCNA Security to follow. Certification exams are mandatory as they are your final exam for related classes. I need to find work, ideas?

This is my proof of said certifications. Job postings are terribly written and not researched. ex. Why does a Desktop technician need a CCNA? Why is the job called "Desktop Support" when 90+% of the devices worked are laptops and tablets? Why do you need Windows Server experience when you work on MACs? Entry level position with 5 years experience required. It gets worse. I have looked into a few staffing agencies but need to update my resume. I live in the Houston, Tx area and not in the financial position to pack up and move somewhere.

Go to USA Jobs and look for civil service work. There are a lot of very good cyber positions for hire in SA and the D.C. Area.

Go to Engilitycorp.com Go to the career section and provide the info required. Engility is a spin off of MPRI (Military Professional Resources Inc.). They are contractors (global) that run computer simulation labs, gaming software, tactical scenarios,and just the usual IT / Server / Website building work. They hire from A+cert that can identify a computer to PhD.

Another option is to find a technical recruiter say Robert Half or SNI. These types of recruiters are paid by the companies to find qualified talent. There is no charge to you as a job hunter. It does not hurt to speak with one of them. They can also review your resume and give you some tips. My past jobs have all been found by networking.

Checkout Meetup.com and Eventbrite.com for local IT user groups. There are tons of these groups in Jacksonville, FL for every interest you can think of in IT. Good luck with your job search.

Check out universities. I work for the University of Georgia, pay is good and benefits are great. Plus you can buy back military time towards retirement.

The Air Force has many IT positions open on a regular basis. Create an account in usajobs and be sure to select Federal Employees if you have Veterans status. Good luck
