I am interested in joining the Guard for the 25D MOS. Is it better to insist for an open slot or join as a 25B and try to reclassify later?

It's an application MOS regardless of whether it's active or reserves. You're either eligible to be selected, or you're not. Give a a shot.

When you go to MEPS........after all is said and done.....it boils down to what is available at the time

25d. Well I’m 25B, and I would love to go 25D. Unfortunately your prior service, and the Business Rules change frequently. 25D may not be a reclass option. It all depends on your rank. I wish you luck.

25D is an MOS by application. You would also need to join a NG unit that has it as part of its manning roster. If the unit you plan to join does not have a slot for a 25D, then you would not be sent to training for it. 25Bs are fairly common in almost every unit. So first you should check if you can join your unit and be sent to 25D training. Otherwise, 25B is the better option and you can apply to a 25D slot assuming you find a unit that can support you.
