I am being sent to the master rappel course later this year. Is there a badge that is issued for this, similar to air assault?

Yes, and it is one of the fancier ones. It is in the shape of a participation trophy and has the same colors as the National Defense Medal.

Great course. Not as technical or difficult as Jump Master but still requires proficiency and attention to detail. I enjoyed it.

El Oh El ! I was an Instructor for the Air Assault School (and Rappel Master). We had a guy That I worked with that was well beyond Gung-Ho. One of our fellow instructors took the Star and Wreath off of JM wings and glued them onto a set of AAS wings and repackaged them in the box. We had this guy convinced that all you had to do was to document 200 Rappels and after completing Rappel Master school, you could submit a 4187 to get awarded them wings. Good Times!

btw - No there is no Badge.

No but Airborne does. Go jump school buddy. Then go to an Airborne unit. That's all you need.

Since it's an Army school there will probably be a badge, ribbon or gold star for your name tag.

No badge, but it is a great course to experience if you desire to become a Jumpmaster. I am partial to AASLT as it is more useful in modern combat, however, JM is not an easy course. I attribute my 1st time go at JM to the fact the I had already done RM. You get 2 min to RMPI 3 Soldiers, and 5 min to JMPI 3 soldiers. It's a great course, you learn a lot, and no, no badge. But you don't need a badge. Other tough, awesome courses without badges: sniper, SERE, Jumpmaster (not a specific badge but its a prereq for the advanced jumper ratings), evasive driver course, master breacher course, master gunner, RSLC, ARC, military mountaineer (unless in Vt NG), the list goes on.
It's not about what badges are sewn on your coat, it's about the tape they go above.

I was talking to a World War 2 Veteran today and someone walks up and interrupts our conversation to ask what medals he was awarded, ribbons and tabs! He replied the only thing I was awarded that I care about was an honorable discharge so I could go home!
