I am always at a loss for words whenever someone thanks me for my service. What is your go-to response?

SrA John Monette I will respond with "it was an honor to serve", or "You are welcome", or "Thank you". It is sometimes awkward, but I would rather have them thank me for my service than the responses that I received years ago.

Depending upon the persons age, I thank them for funding my 3 year European vacation.

I usually say "thank you" or "your welcome", it's harder when they say "let me pay for that". That is when I'm at a loss for words. One of my most surprising moments was when a Vietnam Veteran walked up to me after seeing my OIF shirt and hugged me and said "welcome home!" So I responded "same to you"
