You must first become a leader and learn to take care of your Soldiers before you can guide new recruits and advise them on what the Army is all about. Good luck and thank you for your service. If it's for any reason other than getting your broadening assignment complete trust me the grass is not always greener on the other side. It is very competitive for 31Bs to get promoted to E7 without a broadening assignment, however based on my experience as a recruiter, you should be an SSG before you get to the 79R land. I will highly recommend you to look at DA PAM 600-25 and see what is the best assignment for your MOS at your level. Good luck. Why do you want to be a recruiter? You don't have to answer that here, but I would advise you to take those reasons and then validate them against what the reality is. Most young NCO's who are quick to want to volunteer for recruiting quickly find out that they did it for the wrong reasons and regret that decision. Not saying don't do it. Just saying you need to know what you are getting yourself into before you go asking for it. They ask for your last 3 NCOERz but if you don't have that many you just submit what you have received. With that being the case, you should wait until you at least have one to submit as part of your volunteer packet. You should be learning how to be a leader, and gaining valuable firsthand experience. Taking a broadening assignment now will put you behind your peers, do you want to be out of your career field for 3 years (new tactics, equipment, rules etc)? You could end up going back to the MPs as a SSG with no leadership experience, which wouldn’t turn out very well for you.
