I am a 68W who is looking to transfer for a Deployment to Afghanistan. Is anyone aware of a unit (preferably a line unit) with a spot?

I've been in officially 1 decade, 11B Secondary MOS, two tours to Iraq, I'm an experienced ultra runner, and highly motivated on patrol. Infantry, MP preferred, but I'll love anyone who goes outside the wire regularly and puts boots on ground.

Looking to do a transfer from 1st Med on FT Hood to another local unit. Please message me if you're deploying this year.

I just got my wife moved to division from chem unit to deploy but that is because I work directly with CG and DCSM. Biggest issue you will run into is getting a one for one swap.

I second what LCpl Grant Garrison said. Most units are short 68Ws across the board. Your unit will likely not be excited to give you a 4187 transferring you without receiving another medic to replace you. Even if you found a unit deploying, whose medic didn't want to go and was willing to high five you and tag out, as a provider, I want to deploy with a medic I know, trust, and have history with.

I think it's great that you are actively seeking a deployment though. I would recommend talking to your 1SG and CSM. They will have some insight into who needs what, and they are the gatekeepers to your release.

Try 3 CR, maybe go through their S1. They've announced publicly already an upcoming deployment. Just make sure you utilize proper chain of command and don't spring it on your leadership, that could rub some people the wrong way.

There are many more deployments going on right now other than Afghanistan. Have you ever considered joining special operations and being trained as an Advanced Tactical Paramedic (68w1)? it's not well known but you can put a 4187 in to go to SOCM and upon graduation can be assigned to various special operations units with a high operational tempo. If you are interested in more information shoot me a message and I will answer questions, and give you the contact info for the senior 68w1 at USASOC that will facilitate this.

Check with the Professional Filler System (PROFIS). They attachment is more like a TDY and you return to your home station. Might be able to find a slot with combat arms or a CSH. Hopefully someone else can give you a better starting point for this. S1 (if yours functions somewhat) might be best place to start. Toujors Pret
